Friends of "legendary" wine bar owner Eddie Jackson celebrated his life on Tuesday at video-linked memorial services in Raynes Park and Spain.

Mr Jackson, former owner of Winners Wine Bar in Approach Road, Raynes Park, died from a sudden heart attack earlier this month while playing tennis in Alicante, Spain.

He was 68 years old.

Mr Jackson had moved to the Spanish town of Moraira in 2003 after selling his wine bar to a start a new life in the sun with his partner, Sue.

Paying tribute to the much-loved businessman, a friend said: "Lots of great people met, drank and partied at his wine bar. It was famous to all that came and dragged people in from miles around.

"He will be sadly missed and he was and always will be a 'legend'.

"Eddie built up a strong circle of friends from both the past and present.

"Everyone always enjoyed his company, he was so much fun to be around."

Before entering the wine trade, Mr Jackson owned Base Driving School in Raynes Park with his wife, Christine Jackson.

Tragically, Mrs Jackson was murdered in the 1980s.

After moving to his much-loved Spain, he managed The Don Quite Bar in Moraira and then The St Jamie Bar in Benissa.

An entrepreneurial spirit, he also started a small window-cleaning round and established a successful Pet Care Service with his partner in Spain.

Close friend Michelle Connor, of Raynes Park, said Mr Jackson fed the stray cats in Spain every morning and was well-known for having a bootful of cat food.

Tuesday's memorial service was held at the Prince George's Club in Prince George's Avenue, Raynes Park.

Friends raised a glass to their "much-loved" friend with family in Moraira over a Skype video call.
