A shopper got more than she bargained for at the check-out as supermarket staff announced her 100th birthday.
Marjorie Hampton has been shopping at the Sainsbury’s store in Worple Road, Wimbledon, for decades, and staff honoured her special day with a tannoy announcement and a bunch of flowers.
As a regular customer, Ms Hampton is well-known to shoppers and she was presented with flowers, chocolates and a card by store manager, Denis Young, on Thursday, October 9.
Jemma Synnott from the store said: "Other customers also wished her well for her birthday which actually fell on Sunday, which she spent with all her family.
"She sat and chatted with a couple of our colleagues explaining how much the store has changed since she first came here but that it has always been the place she has chosen to shop."
