Merton Council is calling on residents and businesses to submit their views on plans for the potential regeneration of three housing estates managed by Circle Housing Merton Priory.
Ravensbury estate in Morden, High Path in Wimbledon and Eastfields in Mitcham could all be demolished and rebuilt with an additional 1,200 homes if plans are approved by Merton Council next year.
The council promised to launch its own consultation after residents on each of the estates claimed an earlier consultation run by CHMP did not go far enough in seeking their views.
Councillor Stephen Alambritis, leader of Merton Council, said: "This is a historic opportunity to improve these estates and we want to ensure residents living there get the best deal out of Circle’s proposals and we are adamant that the proposals should have residents’ backing."
CHMP is also running a second consultation for residents on the estates, including workshops with residents.
Residents associations on each of the estates have conveyed strong opposition to regeneration, with Eastfields RA conducting their own "referendum on regeneration" this week, which found 71 per cent of residents do not support CHMP's current regeneration proposal.
Residents and interested organisations close to the estates can submit their views at merton.gov.uk/estatesplan until Tuesday, October 28. Paper copies are available at Mitcham, Morden, Wimbledon and Colliers Wood libraries.
To receive a paper copy of the council's consultation through the post, e-mail estatesplan@merton.gov.uk or call 020 8545 3693, stating your postal address.
