Finalists in a charity competition offering thousands of pounds to good causes in Merton have been named.

The Admiral Trust will give away £2,000 to three organisations over the next year, with winners to be announced at a racing night at The Hub in Mitcham next month.

The Generations Club, supporting young adults with learning difficulties and The Friends of St Helier Hospital, offering pilates and stretching sessions for the elderly, are both in the running for a cash prize.

STEM4, supporting teenage mental health with its education programme and Musical Moving, seeking to use dance as a stimulant to sufferers of Parkinson's Disease, have also been shortlisted.

They will be up against sports groups Wimbledon Kickboxing and Boxing Club and Merton Saints BMX Club, for a chance to win the cash prizes.

Terry Withers, chairman of the Admiral Trust, said: "Each and every nomination seemed to be worthy of support and the time and effort put in by so many volunteers was extremely humbling".

Judges will spend the next week deliberating over which three causes will be the lucky winners. The final three will then be invited to the race night on Friday, October 10, where the results will be announced.

The overall winner will receive the money at once, the runner-up by March next year, and the third prizewinner by next August.

Book your place on the race night for a chance to win a few pounds for yourself by betting on six horse races.

The evening starts at 7.30pm at The Hub, at Tooting and Mitcham Football Club. Tickets are £15 (over 16s only) which includes a fish and chip supper, or a vegetarian option, and the programme are available on the trust's website www.admiraltrust.org.uk
