A series of public meetings are being held to decide the location for 60 'Boris Bike' stations set to open in Wandsworth by spring 2014.

Transport for London (TfL) has revealed the roll-out for the timetable, with docking stations being installed east of Putney High Street and north of the South Circular.

The scheme will see around 60 stations coming to the borough, with the ultimate aim of covering the whole of Wandsworth.

A series of public meetings are taking place next month which will help decide where the bikes will be located.

Later this month councillors will decide whether Wandsworth will make a £2m contribution towards the cost of the expansion.

If the scheme is approved it will be part funded by a levy on local developers with the lion's share of the money coming from sponsor Barclays Bank.

Council leader Ravi Govindia said: "Cycle hire will help more people to take up cycling, reduce car use and ease congestion on our buses, tubes and trains.

"The bikes are convenient, fun, help reduce air pollution and are much cheaper than other forms of public transport. They will be a great addition to our transport system."

Antony Jenkins, Barclays chief executive, said: "In little more than two years, Barclays Cycle Hire has become an integral part of life in central London.

"With this further expansion more people will be able to enjoy the convenience which the bikes provide to many thousands of people every day."

Meetings are taking place on October 6 in the Putney Exchange Shopping Centre, Putney High Street, from 4pm-6pm, October 9 in ASDA, Lavender Hill, from 12pm-2pm and in Southside Shopping Centre, Wandsworth, from 4pm-6pm.
