A diesel spill on Friday evening caused chaos for motorists in rush hour traffic.

Firefighters were called to the spillage in Putney Hill, Putney, at about 6pm on July 13.

Wandsworth Council helped to clean up the mess and put down sodium in the road.

The spill is believed to have been caused by a Transport for London bus.

It caused some motorcyclists to fall off their vehicles, but nobody needed hospital treatment.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "A bus dumped all of it's diesel on Putney Hill.

"The council came along and put sodium down - about half a beach."

Twitter user Dal wrote: "Avoid Putney Hill at all costs. Just seen several shunts due to earlier oil spill and whatever they put on top combined with the rain."
