Members of garage band So Solid Crew are backing a campaign to save the borough's adventure playgrounds.

Wandsworth Against Cuts (WAC) staged a protest on Saturday to call attention to the changes taking place to adventure playgrounds.

Earlier this year the cash-strapped council announced it will be altering the playgrounds so it will no longer need to employ staff to man them, saving £147,000.

Battersea Adventure Playground and York Gardens Adventure Playground are set to be redeveloped, while Kimber Road Adventure Playground will be turned into a skate park.

WAC has launched a petition calling on the council to keep the staff, which has gained 400 signatures.

A WAC spokesperson said: "Many local people benefited, during their teenage years, from spending time on Wandsworth's Adventure Playgrounds. "The safe, supportive and adventurous environment has enabled some to become very successful. "The leaders were a hugely important in helping hundreds and thousands of young people to become responsible, independent adults."

The group is asking for anyone who benefited from the playground to come forward to ensure the playleaders continue to be employed.

Members of WAC visited the park with So Solid Crew MC Mega earlier this week to raise awareness of what is happening. Some band members used the playgrounds when they were younger.
