Royal fever is sweeping Wandsworth with 150 street parties already planned to mark The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

So far 138 street parties have been given the go-ahead over the Royal Jubilee weekend with another 15 fresh applications currently being considered.

Residents are being is actively encouraging residents to organise street parties to mark this summer’s Royal milestone.

As was the case with last year’s royal wedding, the council has stripped away all the bureaucracy, red tape and cost of holding a street party over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend of June 2-5.

The normal £50 fee for arranging a road closure has been waived meaning there is nothing to stop residents staging a great neighbourhood get-together to mark The Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

Wandsworth residents have already doubled the number of street parties that were held to celebrate last year’s royal wedding when 67 parties were hosted - the second highest tally in London, behind Richmond.

The borough will be at the heart of the nation’s jubilee celebrations on Sunday, June 3, when a spectacular 1,000 boat river pageant will weave its way along the Thames from its starting point in Putney.

The royal flotilla will then sail past Battersea Park where a massive festival is being staged to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.
