Clapham Junction station will be get a Barclays Cycle Hire docking station when the scheme expands into Wandsworth.

Two hundred people contacted Wandsworth Council last year with suggestions about where the popular Boris bikes could be located.

The station received the most nominations and the council is now looking into locations in the vicinity that could house a docking station.

Battersea Park was also popular with residents, with investigations under way to identify a site in that area as well.

The council is hoping to identify and put in planning applications for 80 docking stations across the borough, each one holding about 24 bikes.

Councillor Russell King, Wandsworth Council transport spokesman said: "Our officers have visited the vast majority of sites nominated and we hope to be able to announce a full list of the 80 planned locations for the scheme in the near future.

"Having seen how popular the bikes have been in central London, I am confident adopting the scheme in Wandsworth will ease the pressure on our roads and create space on overcrowded buses, tubes and trains."

The Mayor of London announced plans last year to expand the scheme across south west London in 2013, which could include east of Putney High Street and north of the South Circular.

Wandsworth Council has been lobbying for the Barclays Cycle Hire bikes to be rolled out south of the river as part of the Wandsworth Travel Choices campaign.
