Two men have been found guilty of beating their 76-year-old grandfather to death using furniture and bottles of vodka in his Battersea home.
Wayne Edwards, 34, of Battersea and Anton Sanderson, 25, of Edmonton, both received life sentences for murder and were ordered to serve a minimum of 20 years each behind bars. The judge passed the sentence at the Old Bailey this afternoon, shortly after the jury returned their verdict.
Paul Peters, of Francis Chichester Way, Battersea, had injuries similar to being hit by a car, according to one expert witness.
He had suffered months of abuse, the court heard, before the final devastating attack by his two grandsons.
The 76-year-old pensioner was battered with fists, feet, bottles and pieces of furniture at his flat.
He suffered 33 rib fractures and was found half naked on his kitchen floor.
That same night, Edwards and Sanderson wrecked a local restaurant, Noor Tandoori, causing £17,000 of damage.
The shop’s owner was forced to sell what was left of the business following the attack.
Mr Edwards' ex-girlfriend Lee Beddoe, 34, was accused of helping the men remove evidence, but the charge was thrown out on Tuesday, December 22, and she was found not-guilty by the judge’s direction.
