More Heathrow protests planned

5:10pm Sunday 2nd November 2008

Campaigners fighting expansion at Heathrow Airport have planned a string of protest events in the lead up to the final Government decision on a third runway.

Lobby group the World Development Movement (WDM) has invited residents “for a thought-provoking evening of short films, speakers and discussion” at the Old Chiswick Film Theatre in the George IV pub between 7pm and 9pm on Monday, November 17.

Speakers will include John Stewart, chairman of campaign group Hacan, and Benedict Southworth, director of WDM. To book a free place email register@wdm.org.uk or call 020 7820 4900.

Then the following week residents will try to get the Prime Minister to listen to them at a demonstration in Lampton Park, Hounslow.

Protesters will wear Gordon Brown masks and big ears, with a tape of aircraft noise playing in the background, between 11am and 11.30am on Saturday, November 29.

The Campaign Against Climate Change, part of the coalition to stop Heathrow expansion, has organised a march to parliament on Saturday December 6.

The National Climate March will start at noon at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park. Speakers will include Nick Clegg, Liberal Democrat leader, Caroline Lucas, leader of the Green Party, ex-Environment Minister Michael Meacher and George Monbiot, honorary president of Campaign Against Climate Change.

The Government is expected to announce its decision on Heathrow expansion before the end of the year.
