A fire broke out in house in Queenstown Road, Battersea, earlier today.

London Fire Bridage sent four fire engines and around 20 firefighters and officers to a fire at a house converted into flats in Queenstown Road in Battersea.

Part of the first floor extension at the rear of the property was alight.

The Brigade was called at 2.04pm and the fire was under control at 3.17pm.

Fire crews from Clapham, Battersea and Lambeth fire stations went to the scene.

A LFB spokesperson said: "The cause of the fire is currently unknown."

There are no reports of any injuries. A pile of rubbish was also damaged in the blaze.

One witness, who wants to remain anonymous, rang LFB. She said they arrived at the scene within minutes and were "superb".

As a pile of rubbish also went up in flames, she added: "I thought because we have a big littering problem, it might be good to get people to think about things they leave outside - even in their gardens, especially as it's nearly summer."
