Battersea Power Station has been shortlisted for the engineering equivalent of an Oscar.

The shortlist for the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) London Civil Engineering Awards was revealed today and the reconstruction of the four chimneys at BPS is one of eight in the running.

The iconic chimneys had to be replaced during Battersea Power Station Phase 2 due to severe deterioration.

Suzanne Moroney, ICE London Director said: "Whilst infrastructure is vitally important, it is often hidden from public view. This makes it hard for us to appreciate just how much work goes into keeping our city running.

"The ICE London Awards provide the opportunity to showcase some of that great work. From cycling to flood defences, our shortlist this year gives a snapshot of the incredible projects civil engineers are engaged in – and the wide variety of their work.

"I’d encourage all to vote for the Londonist People’s Choice Award for the project that best inspires you. Just go to our website, and select your favourite!"

The winner will be announced at the awards on May 25, 2017, and will be hosted by BBC London presenter Alice Bhandhukravi.

Members of the public can also vote for their favourite in the Londonist People’s Choice Award which runs from March 20 to May 1.

Simon Jenner CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: "We are delighted our chimneys have been shortlisted for the Engineering Excellence award.

"These famous London skyline landmarks have been meticulously dismantled and rebuilt to exactly replicate the original structures which had deteriorated due to them expelling flue gases for half a century.

"This recognition helps to endorse all the hard work which has been done by our team and Skanska, and we look forward to celebrating their completion later this year."
