A clothes designer who denied a man a second date was asked to pay him back for the drinks he bought.

Lucy Brown, 38, from London, went to a pub in Clapham with a man she met on dating website Plenty of Fish.

After the date she sent him a text saying she did not wish to meet up again and it was then she received the request for reimbursement.

In the text, the unnamed man thanked Lucy for her honesty but said he was "devastated" by the news.

He said: "I really fancied you and saved up some money to take you on a nice date; as it didn’t work out I’d be grateful if you could send along something to contribute for the drinks I spent on you thinking I’d at least get to see you again."

He went on to inform her the total cost of the night was £85.

Lucy somehow ended up with his watch at the end of the night but he said she could keep it as it would be "too painful to receive the watch in the post and remind me of you”.

He added: "I thought you might be interested to know the cost of that was €20. Happy for you to do what you feel is right, especially considering my badly damaged feelings at the moment".

He left his bank details at the end.

Lucy had only been using dating apps for about a month after a long term relationship.

As quoted in the Telegraph, she said: "I met him on Plenty of Fish and I thought he seemed really nice and normal, with a good profession as I'm a career girl and he seemed quite sensible.

"I have been a bit of a date monster [before my last relationship], but I'd only been on one other date with someone else before I met him.

"When I got the text, I was crying with laughter - I honestly thought he was joking. But then I realised he was serious."

"Everyone in my office has been snorting and crying with laughter at the text too. People have just been like 'oh my God, is he joking' after seeing the message.

"My life does feel a bit ridiculous at the moment. I just think 'why me?'"

Lucy responded saying she had put £42.50 into his account and donated the same amount again to a donkey sanctuary.

She said: "Now, it was really lovely of you to insist on paying for the drinks but in the words of Beyoncé I’m a honey that make ma money cause I’m an independent women, so next time don’t pay for everything just in case date two doesn’t happen."

She ended by saying she had sent his watch to Brixton Police station.
