A sawn-off shotgun and ammunition were found hidden in the wardrobe of a woman who has now been jailed for five years.

The home of Tahira Nelson-Warburton, 27, in Strathdon Drive, Earlsfield, was raided by police just after 1pm on Friday, August 5.

In her bedroom wardrobe, hidden in a rucksack and wrapped in clothing, police found a sawn-off shotgun and a quantity of ammunition. More ammunition was also found hidden in a makeup bag in a chest of drawers in the same bedroom, and a large quantity of cash was also found.

Police believe Nelson-Warburton was holding the gun for another person.

She pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to cause fear and violence, and was sentenced to five years in prison at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday, November 30.

A 21-year-old woman who was arrested as part of the investigation was released with no further charge.

Detective Constable Martin Reader, of the Trident and Area Crime Command, said: “We will continue to target anyone who is storing a gun, or helping to hide them from the police, as this conviction shows.

“Gun crime has a devastating effect on communities and families. Anyone found to be involved in the storing or use of lethal firearms will face a significant custodial sentence.”
