A Wandsworth architect who ‘bullied’ a couple with £10,000 of false invoices has been suspended for six months after ‘completely botching’ a loft conversion at their Beckenham property.

Mr Mukundkumar Vashee, known as Mayur, was suspended for professional misconduct and incompetence after his design was found to be “seriously flawed, based on inaccurate measurements and could not be built.”

In January 2010 Alexander and Rebecca Bennett appointed Arc3 Architects, which is owned and directed by Mr Vashee, to convert their loft into a separate one-bedroomed flat at the property in Copers Cope Road.

When the couple complained to Mr Vashee they said he generated £10,000 worth of false invoices to ‘bully’ them into dropping their complaint.

The Architects Registration Board, the professional body for architects, found that Mr Vashee “failed to provide his clients with relevant information and advice” and that “his failings put his clients to substantial cost and inconvenience”.

They said he "failed to carry out work faithfully, conscientiously and with skill and care, failed adequately or at all to provide the client with relevant information and advice, failed adequately or at all to deal with a complaint or dispute about professional work."

The report highlighted some mitigating factors including that Mr Vashee has had no ‘adverse regulatory history’ in his 30 year career and fully engaged with the regulatory process.

Dr Bennett said: “We have had over three and a half years of difficulties and significant financial losses due to engaging Arc3, I wouldn’t wish our experience on anyone.”

Mr Vashee's suspension runs until mid-November this year. Arc3 Architects have offices in West Wickham, Wandsworth and Clapham.

Mr Vashee has been contacted for comment.
