During the Wimbledon Championships 2016, parking and traffic restrictions will be in place on Wimbledon Bridge and Somerset Road in Wimbledon as well as in Southfields.

Wimbledon Championships 2016 dates are from Monday June 27 to Sunday July 10, during which ‘tennis event day’ parking and traffic restrictions will apply.

An amendment to restrictions on tennis event days mean the parking bays on Wimbledon Bridge outside the station are suspended.

Only buses are allowed to stop between 9.30am and 2pm throughout the championships with a pick-up/drop-off facility operating between 2pm and 11pm.

Restrictions do not apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a Police Community Support Officer in uniform or a Community Safety Accreditation Scheme approved traffic marshall/steward for whom accreditation involves the powers to direct traffic.

Merton Council has also given notice that to allow deliveries to the All England Lawn Tennis Club and equipment to be installed to enable the Wimbledon Championships to take place, no person shall cause or permit any vehicle to wait in Somerset Road, the north-east side, between a point opposite the north-western kerb line of its easternmost junction with Newstead Way and its junction with Church Road.

The order will come into operation from 8am Friday, June 24.

In Southfields, all existing parking zones will be combined into one zone called EZ, event zone.

Motorists with parking permits for S1, S2, S3, S5, Q1 and Q2 will be entitled to park in EZ zone.

All households within this zone have been issued with two free temporary permits which can be used by their visitors. This is because pay and display machines throughout the area, apart from those serving the shops in Replingham Road, will be switched off to ensure that tennis fans do not take up these spaces.

Anyone caught trying to sell permits on will face legal action.

Some parking bays in the event zone, especially along Wimbledon Park Road, Augustus Road, Victoria Drive, Bathgate Road, Queensmere Road and Princes Way will be suspended for the duration of the tournament at the request of the police.

Tennis lovers are advised to use public transport where possible to travel to the tournament.

The tennis club is a 15 minute walk from Southfields station, on the District Line, and 20 minutes from Wimbledon station, also on the District Line and on mainline overground routes.

Shuttle buses are running from Wimbledon to St Pancras, Euston Road, Marble Arch and Victoria, costing £15 return or £10 one way (londoncentral.com).

Wimbledon Park car park 6 opens at 6am and costs £25 pre-booked or £30 on the day.

Park and Ride from Morden Park runs from 6.30am, costing £15 including the shuttle bus (theaa.com/wimbledon).
