A man was taken to hospital head and leg injuries after being hit by a train at Clapham Junction on Sunday evening. 

British Transport Police were called to the station in Battersea at around 7.30pm to reports of a person hit by a train.

A BTP spokesman said: "We were called to Clapham Junction station on Sunday at 7.29pm following a report of a person struck by a train. 

"A 20-year-old man from north London received treatment before being taken to hospital. 

"He currently remains in hospital with injuries to his head and legs, in a serious but stable condition. 

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and his family has been informed." 

A spokesman from the London Ambulance Service confirmed that an air ambulance was sent to the station at 7.35pm, as well as an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and a hazardous area response team. 

He added: "We treated a man for head and leg injuries and took him by road to a major trauma centre in south London, accompanied by a doctor from London's Air Ambulance."

Travellers faced delays of up to an hour until 11pm at Clapham Junction following the incident last night.
