Hundreds of dogs and their owners have signed up to get muddy for charity as the second Battersea Dogs and Cats Home Muddy Run returns to Brockwell Park.

Next Saturday, 450 dog lovers and 358 four legged athletes will tackle a 5km course through the park filled with muddy hurdles and balance beams.

The money raised will support the dogs and cats home as they look after abandoned animals.

Ali Jinnah, events manager at Battersea said: "We have had a brilliant response from pet owners wanting to get involved, all the money raised at Muddy Dog will go straight towards helping the 8,000 dogs and cats that come through Battersea’s door each year.

"Battersea isn’t funded by the government, so we are wholly reliant on donations from the general public and we are so grateful for the support we get. I can’t wait to see all the dogs enjoying themselves out on the course on the day getting as muddy as possible.

"The event is next weekend so dog lovers still have time to register and get involved. We look forward to seeing everyone there on the day."
