Junior doctors are going on strike again this Wednesday as talks with the government over new contracts failed to produce an agreement.

The British Medical Association (BMA) announced that the planned industrial action for Wednesday, February 10, would go ahead after failed talks with the government over proposed working hours and pay for junior doctors.

The walkout will last for 24 hours from 8am on Wednesday.

It will be the second day of industrial action for junior doctors across the country who walked out on January 12.

However, junior doctors will still provide emergency care throughout the strike.

A statement from the BMA said: “Despite the best efforts of our negotiating team, and hours of talks facilitated by Acas, we have not managed to reach agreement with NHS Employers and the Department of Health on the new junior doctors contract.”

A spokesman from Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals added: “Our top priority remains the continued safety of every patient in our care. We have tried and tested business continuity plans to help us deal with this kind of situation.

“This includes ensuring appropriate cover in all our clinical areas and although we are working hard to keep disruptions to a minimum, we anticipate a small number of outpatient clinics and planned operations will need to be cancelled if industrial action goes ahead.

“We are in the process of contacting patients that may be affected, so anyone with an appointment scheduled for Wednesday who has not heard from us should attend the hospital as planned.”
