Train stations closed and severe delays were reported across South West Trains services this morning after a man was hit by a train at Raynes Park Station.

Emergency services were called to the station just after 6.40am.

The man was pronounced dead.

Police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

Kevin Whincup said ambulance, fire officers, air ambulance and the British Transport Police were all at the station at about 7.30am.

Raynes Park station and Surbiton station closed at about 8.30am but re-opened at about 8.50am.

However, there were still long queues outside the stations as commuters waited to find out how long they would have to wait to get on a train.

South West Trains said commuters could expect delays of up to 120 minutes this morning.

First Class seats were de-classified to help reduce overcrowding.

Reporter Rachael Burford said: "There are no trains from Surbiton or Kingston  and massive overcrowding.

"People are queuing all the way down past the Pizza Express in Surbiton just to get in the station."

A British Transport Police spokesman said officers were working to identify the man.

A South West Trains spokesman said: "Services are disrupted this morning after a person was hit by a train shortly after 6.30, near Raynes Park.

"Our first thoughts are with the family of the person involved.

"The line has now reopened however there will be some residual delays while services recover. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."
