Chairman of Hospital Saturday Fund, John Greenwood, visited Paul’s Cancer Support Centre on Monday 13 July to present Trustee Eleanor Steele with a £10,000 cheque towards the running costs of the centre’s Home Visiting Services.

The service matches reflexology, massage and counselling with people affected by cancer who are unable to leave their home.

Crucially the centre’s bid for funding was supported by befriending volunteer and ex-centre client Lee Sharmer.

Lee said: “I came to the Centre as a client in 2011 and found the support and variety of services on offer amazing.

"I know how much it helps.

"I feel I was very lucky with my cancer and I wanted to help the Centre and others in the same way I received help.

"By volunteering I have come to understand how valuable my time can be and how important it is for people housebound through cancer to have the social contact and support that we can offer at home."

Paul’s is recruiting for its next volunteer training course that takes place in October and November this year.
