Itchy eyes? Runny nose? It’s bad news for allergy sufferers as pollen levels are set to create hayfever hell in London this week.

The Met Office has set the forecast for pollen levels across London, south east England and other parts of the UK as very high from Tuesday to Friday.

Hayfever sufferers should be on high alert and take extra precautions as pollen levels rocket and temperatures rise over the next few days.

Experts say Tuesday (June 16) will remain dry with sunny spells with a maximum temperature of 23°C expected across London and south east England.

Tomorrow is also expected to be dry and very warm with sunny spells and temperatures rising to 25°C.

Mid-June is thought to be the peak of the season for grass pollen, which causes most of the problems for allergy sufferers at this time of year.

TOP TIPS FOR HAYFEVER RELIEF:

  • Keep windows closed when driving and at home, especially overnight as most pollen is released in the early morning.
  • When outdoors, wear sunglasses to keep pollen out of your eyes.
  • Avoid drying your clothes outside when pollen counts are high and if you do, shake them well before bringing them inside.
  • Vacuum regularly inside, avoid bringing fresh flowers indoors and be aware that pets can bring pollen in on their fur.
  • Don’t allow smoking inside as this will irritate the lining of your nose, eyes, throat and airways, making your symptoms worse.
  • Shower and wash your hair to remove pollen after being outdoors.
  • You can benefit from a wide range of medication, prescribed by your GP or purchased over the country from a pharmacy.
