LocalArts 4 Dementia (A4D) has received the highly commended project award at last week’s adult learners week.

Awards were presented to individuals who have triumphed in the face of a number of difficulties, including mental or physical health challenges, alongside charities and organisations that encourage people to do so.

A4D chief executive Veronica Franklin-Gould said: "Over 300 applications were submitted for the south-east England region and it is a huge honour to be recognised in this way."

On Friday, MP Justine Greening visited A4D to find out more about the organisation and see how she could help develop links in the area.

She said: "Part of this is catching it in the early-stages and I can help to establish links between the appropriate local services."

Justine Greening was also joined by A4D workshop participants Pauline and David Hawkey, who have both found the workshops life-changing.

Mrs Hawkey said: "The workshops are so life-enhancing; here is where you get your confidence back. They have been such a gift to us both and we would go seven days a week if we could."

The award was handed out at a ceremony on June 10.
