MPS Wandsworth tweeted: "Police are at the scene of a road traffic collision at Tooting Broadway. Garratt Lane is closed at the junction with Mitcham Lane."

Imogen Henry said: "Apparently a cyclist has been hit by a orry in Tooting Braod. Really hope they are okay."

Samantha Babayemi, who witnessed the crash, said: “I was driving passed the junction outside Tooting Broadway station and I kind of heard a noise, and then I heard a man screaming and at that moment I saw him falling off his bike.”

She said the man looked like he was in his 40s, and was conscious but screaming in pain with injuries to his leg after the crash.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman: “We were called at 3.15pm to Tooting High street to reports of a road traffic collision.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew and a single responder in a car and we remain on scene.”

LAS: “We treated a man reported to be in his 30s. He was taken to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, as a priority.”

Queues are building and traffic has come to a standstill.

An employee at New Look in Mitcham Road did not see what happened but said there were lots of police and an ambulance.

She said: “Someone just came in and said there’s been a horrific accident at the lights.”
