A number of Wandsworth’s most worthy were part of the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Peggy Walpole, who recently retired from the position of headteacher at Paddock School in Wandsworth, has been made an OBE for her services to children with special educational needs and disabilities.

She said: “I’m so excited I’m ready to burst but also incredibly humbled. I have had to keep it to myself for the last three weeks and it’s been agony.”

Having been approached by the National Autistic Society, Peggy now carries on her great work part-time as part of the scans team at Maudsley Hospital.

George Owen: A great servant to the Clapham community

Chairman of Omnibus, an arts centre in Clapham, George Owen, was made an MBE for services to the arts and the community in Clapham.

Mr Owen said: “I’m very much surprised and I’m proud to be honoured in this way. We made the 125-year-old building something other than a takeaway shop; we made it into something for the community of Clapham.

He also gave credit to his team saying: “It is the work of other people at the organisation too, not just myself.”

Nursing: Gary Tubman got the honour for his work in mental health

Gary Tubman was also made an MBE for his services to mental health nursing.

The modern matron and psychiatric nurse have worked across a number of department within the trust in his 35 year career including; rehabilitation, Cottage Day Hospital and in acute and intensive care.

Mr Tubman said: “I am honoured to receive this award on behalf of all the wonderful nurses who I have worked with at the trust all these years.

“I wish also to pay tribute to the patients and their families, whom I have learned so much from and continue to do so and benefit from.”
