Urogynaecology appointments at St George's Hospital have been suspended after the lead member left, forcing patients to Croydon.

Urgent cases will still be seen but a woman expecting to be seen for a pre-op appointment turned up to find it cancelled on Tuesday, June 9.

The hospital said staffing changes, non-urgent appointments have been suspended at the Tooting hospital, with patients being referred on to Croydon University Hospital. New patients will be referred to an alternative provider.

The suspension will remain while a review of the staffing and service model takes place.

A spokesman for St George's said: "We are transferring specialist procedures to other centres as a consequence of operational issues and limited staffing.

"We will ensure that any patients who are transferred are reviewed by an accredited specialist to ensure that there is an appropriate care plan in place."

Uro-gynecology involves the diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence and female pelvic floor disorders.

Urgent and emergency uro-gynaecology cases can still be seen at St George's.
