White ibis: A mysterious arrival
A rare American white ibis caused a flap among bird watchers after it dropped in to the London Wetland Centre.
The bird, which is usually found in the mid-Atlantic and Gulf Coast of America, landed at the Barnes reserve on Monday, April 13, is believed to be the same creature recently seen near Sevenoaks in Kent.
Due to its age, birdwatchers have been locked in discussion about whether it is a wild bird which has been blown a long way off course and away from home or if it is an escapee.
The bird does not have a leg ring, meaning it cannot be identified, and would be a rate sighting for the UK if it is wild.
