A mum-of-three who ended-up trapped under her own car is trying to trace the good Samaritans who rushed to her rescue and lifted the vehicle off her.

Yasmin Salam, 35, was returning home to Streatham Road in Mitcham after shopping in Tooting, when she got out of the car without turning it off and it ran over her leg.

The cup-cake maker, who drives a Toyota Prius, said: "I was just coming back from shopping and it was about 12.30 in the afternoon.

"I parked my car, it's an automatic and I didn't realise it was still on. I jumped out because I was in a rush as usual. I was looking for my mobile phone and it rolled back onto my leg and I was pinned down."

Lying under the car by the junction of Gorringe Park Avenue, on Saturday, January 31, Mrs Salam screamed for help and a group of people rushed over to assist.

They needed to get the car off her leg, but no-one could drive an automatic.

So four men gathered round the car and tried to lift it. But they couldn't budge the 3,000 lb car and called for more hands.

Between 10 and 15 people rallied round and managed to raise it high enough to free Mrs Salam within four minutes of her being crushed.

Remarkably, she didn't break any bones and decided against going to hospital, despite pleas from concerned onlookers.

She said: "I was lying on the ground, it was raining and they said, you're still in shock. I tried to move my leg and I said no I'm fine. I was trying to get back to normal as soon as possible and they said we'll help you up.

'I just want to say thank you': Yasmin Salam with the car that crushed her leg

"A man apologised for man-handling me, he was so polite. They parked the car properly for me and a woman accompanied me home."

Three weeks later Mrs Salam still gets pains in her leg but is on the mend and wants to thank the group of people who came to her rescue.

She said: "I was so shocked and in pain that I didn't get the chance to thank them or ask their names. There was a white man, a Sri Lankan man, a Polish man, and an African woman who invited me into her home. I just want to say thank you to them."
