Ever wondered what kind of things police are called to in Wandsworth on a typical day?

On Thursday police officers will be live tweeting 999 incidents they receive between 8am and 4pm.

Battersea Sergeant Nathan Shickle, who tweets at @MPSBatterseaSgt, said: "We're hoping to be able to give our followers a taste of the volume and variety of calls we deal with on a daily basis as well as provide an insight into our work.

“You can follow the day's incidents by using the hashtag #MPSWandsworthLive and if you are not a Twitter user, you can still see the tweets as they come in on our website.”

Superintendent Steven Wallace who is in charge of operations at Wandsworth police and tweets at @mpssuptwallace, said: "We are keen to be transparent and show the full range of demands on our teams 24 / 7 and the great work often done behind the scenes."

The force tweeted this morning: "Not one single solitary burglary reported anywhere in the borough in the last 24 hours!"

 


 

In December the borough saw 1,832 crimes reported according to the Met crime mapping page - equivalent to about 59 crimes a day.

The worst hit areas were Graveney (139), Southfields (133) and Thamesfield (131) with the most common source of crime for the borough violence against the person which accounted for 501 crimes, followed by 392 reports of antisocial behaviour.
