A proposal for a new £40m library and student accommodation buildings for the University of Roehampton gained unanimous approval at planning.
The work at the university's Digby Stuart College site is part of a £80m masterplan to modernise facilities across the university and bring it up to date.
The library will provide state of the art facilities and will be available for public use, with the new accommodation buildings providing 388 ensuite bedrooms.
Speaking at the committee meeting, ward councillor Jeremy Ambache said: "The university is of considerable benefit to the local community and needs to provide more accommodation for first years, we need to support the university in its role in Roehampton."
Wandsworth Council planning committee approved the plans on Monday, September 15.
Subject to final approval from the Mayor of London, due to the size of the development, work is due to start in January 2015, with the first buildings completed in July 2016.
