A man hit by a tram this morning is in a stable condition in hospital.

The incident happened at Fieldway tram stop at about 9am this morning.

London's air ambulance were sent to the scene and the London Ambulance Service also sent an ambulance crew and duty officer.

The man, who was conscious and breathing, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being airlifted to the Royal London Hospital by air ambulance.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said their officers had attended following a report a man had received a 'glancing blow from a passing tram.'

She said: "His condition is described as stable and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening."

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been informed.
