Police are anxious to trace a motorcyclist who may have witnessed a woman being shot by what is believed to be an air gun pellet.

A 49-year-old woman was shot at the junction of the Newlands, Buckingham Way and Sandy Lane South, Wallington, on Friday, March 23, at 6.14pm.

The woman was standing at the junction with her husband and talking to a friend when the shot was fired from is thought to be a passing 4x4 vehicle.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to a heavy graze.

Detective Constable Matt Harris, of Sutton CID, is leading the investigation and said he is interested in speaking to anyone he has not spoken to already as part of the investigation, particularly a passing motorcyclist who pursued the 4x4 until the vehicle was lost from sight.

The motorcyclist made a note of the registration number which he gave to another witness when he returned to the scene. He then drove off without leaving any contact details.
