A Wimbledon FC legend has given his backing to our Drop the Dons campaign. Alan Kimble, who played for the club 215 times from 1993 to 2002, agreed that MK Dons FC should drop the final part of the name - created after the controversial decision in 2004 to move Wimbledon FC from south London to Milton Keynes.
He said: "The quicker they do that the better for everyone. The quicker we can all move on."
Since September the area has been represented in the football league by fan-owned AFC Wimbledon, and Kimble said they are the true successors to Wimbledon FC.
Former defender Kimble, now assistant manager at Eastbourne Borough, praised AFC's success in climbing from the bottom of football pyramid to League Two. He said: "They have done fantastic to get where they are - and may it continue."
More than 1,700 people have signed up to the campaign, launched a month ago by the Wimbledon Guardian. We have also been featured on radio and tv and been mentioned in Parliament.
In the coming weeks more familiar names signing up as we continue to press for change to right one of football’s biggest wrongs.
