Matching footprints and DNA has led police to charge and convict a burglar.

Kieran Knott, of Whitehorse Road, Croydon, was sentenced to a total of three years nine months in jail for burglary after pleading guilty to burglary at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday February 9.

The court heard the 33-year-old, who was on a suspended sentence for a former crime, targeted a flat in Rectory Grove, Croydon during the day on September 29.

He stole expensive items including a laptop, digital camera and jewellery.

Forensic officers investigating found the victim’s home had been broken into and DNA on the window, as well as a partial footprint on a worktop.

DC Ken McAuley, who investigated the case said: “The DNA Knott left behind at the scene, along with the footprint, which matched up with a pair of shoes we recovered as he was arrested at his address left us in no doubt he was responsible for this burglary.

This sentence will ensure that he will be behind bars for a considerable amount of time to come.”

Some things never change Kieran was burgling houses as a youth as part of the ABC (Addiscombe Burglary Crew) when he used to live at the houses by Woodside fire station.

Det Con Ken McAuley says " This sentence will ensure that he will be behind bars for a considerable amount of time to come"......do me a favour you plank. The offence happened in September so lets say by the time plod pulled their finger out it was November he was arrested. That means 3 months on remand. So he will be out in Jan/Feb next year.

Why do the Police never say "it was a very poor sentencing by the Judge and it should have been twice as long" the reason they are all thinking about the next rank.

Grow some b4lls guys.

He should have said he was squatting for a bit - You wouldn't have seen the police for dust!

And as for that Kieran, another Thick, lazy, selfish excuse for an man! Too many like that in Croydon.
