James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 to go under the hammer in Battersea

It’s only had two previous owners, graced the silver screen and boasts machine guns, a bullet-proof shield and an oil slick sprayer.

Pay attention all you wannabe 007s because Bond fans are being given the chance to own a piece of movie history when the British superspy’s iconic Aston Martin DB5 goes on sale in Battersea.

But be warned, the £3.2m ($5m) price tag could leave potential buyers shaken, not stirred.

The car, which was driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball, is being offered by RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby’s, at the Automobiles of London event at the Battersea Evolution in London, on October 27.

RM believes the 1964 Aston Martin - on sale for the first time in history - will achieve in excess of $5m.

Max Girardo, RM Europe’s managing director, said: “Like ‘Q’, we never joke about our work, which is why RM is consistently entrusted with the sale of the world’s most significant collector cars like the real 007 Aston Martin DB5 movie car.

“RM is known for world-record-setting results and we expect nothing less for 007’s iconic DB5.”

The classic car, which was sold to American radio broadcaster Jerry Lee for $12,000 in 1969 by EON Productions, features “Q-Branch” gadgets, including a revolving FMP 7B number plate, tracking device, removable roof panel, nail spreader and smoke screen, all controlled from factory-installed toggles and switches hidden in the centre arm-rest.

Mr Lee said: “The James Bond car has brought me much enjoyment for some 40 years.

“Even as I sell it and use the proceeds to fund the Jerry Lee Foundation (tackling poverty worldwide), the car will continue to give me great pleasure as it furthers the mission of the foundation to do good around the world.”
