Victim of brutal attack in New Malden was beaten not stabbed

Residents of a New Malden street have learnt that no knives were used in an incident which left a 20-year-old man hospitalised in a brutal attack last night.

Officers at the scene would only confirm to neighbours last night that a "serious incident" had occurred.

London Ambulance said this morning that they had been called to reports of a stabbing.

But, despite the amount of blood, police said this afternoon that the victim was in fact beaten by his two assailants.

The incident happened in a leafy path at the bottom of Beresford Road, which residents frequently use to cut-through to South Lane under the railway line.

Witnesses said they saw the attackers get out of a black BMW to attack their victim, before racing away to Kingston Road.

The attack happened right outside the home of mum Andrea MacDonald, who said the assailants had beaten the man in the cut-through before making their escape.

She said: "It’s such a quiet neighbourhood, and I’ve never known anything like this before.

"I wish they would just block the alley off really, so things like this won’t happen in our street."

Police are hunting for a black man aged between 16 and 20, who was wearing a black and white chequered fleece, and a similarly aged white man with brown hair and wearing a light green t-shirt.

Anyone with information on the attack should contact Kingston CID on 020 8247 4909, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
