First came the foot-long sandwich to fill our bellies, then it was a 12-inch sausage roll - now Asda has supersized the chocolate eclair in time for Christmas.

The choux pastry treat is the latest food to get the 30cm treatment and it looks just as decadent and delicious as you'd hope, filled with fluffy Belgian chocolate mousse and sticky caramel sauce and topped with a chocolate fondant.

Asda has also launched a giant Marie Antoinette-inspired macaron cake. The pretty pink frozen gateau is stuffed with a white chocolate mousse, topped with raspberries and a light sprinkling of pistachios for a delicious finish.

Claire Reed, product development manager for chilled bakery, said: “Straight from the streets of Paris to Asda shelves, traditional French favourites can now be enjoyed by the whole family this Christmas.

Your Local Guardian:

"Our experts have lovingly hand finished our striking new desserts, adding the final touch of affordable luxury to your seasonal soirée – sure to leave your loved ones saying 'oh la la!'”

Someone needs to tell Asda it's 'ooh la la' but anyway its new giant eclair will be available in stores from December 14 priced at £5.

The calorific creation comes hot on the heels of Morrisons selling a massive Toblerone bar for Black Friday.
