A Welsh international rugby player is appealing his conviction and sentence for attacking his glamour model ex-girlfriend at the South Croydon home of pop star Dane Bowers.

Ian Gough is appearing at Croydon Crown Court today.

The 37-year-old was found guilty in July last year of grabbing and pushing former Miss Wales Sophia Cahill against his van in Kingswood Way on January 4, 2014.

On that day Gough had arrived more than an hour late for a meeting with Miss Cahill at her home, which she shares with her fiance Mr Bowers, from the boyband Another Level.

Gough was fined £1,050 and ordered to pay a £105 victim surcharge along with a £775 contribution to prosecution costs and £200 in compensation to Miss Cahill.

He denied the charge and told reporters outside court last July that he would appeal his conviction.
