A family’s dreams for the son who came to the UK to make a better life have been torn apart after he was killed in a hit and run crash.

Kamrul Hasan was on his way home from a kebab shop after visiting a friend when his Yamaha motorbike collided with a car in London Road, West Croydon.

The car drove off leaving him lying on the road and he died about 45 minutes later.

Mr Hasan moved to London, from Bangladesh, six years ago to further his studies and his brother-in-law Moktar Hossin said his death has devastated the family in both countries.

The 23-year-old was a business management student at the London College of Advanced Studies who had planned to return to his home in Dhaka to look after his parents and younger brother after graduating.

He had not seen them since he moved to England and Mr Hossin is now having to prepare to take his relative’s body back to the family home.

Mr Hossin, 31, said: "When I called the family [in Bangladesh] they were totally broken down.

"The crash not only killed him, it killed the whole family.

"His plan was to go back and look after the family and now I’m thinking how are his parents going to survive?

"He was a very sensitive guy and his parents had a very good future and a very big dream for him here.

"His parents are halfway dead now and every time his mum calls me she wants to speak to him."

Mr Hasan used to live with his only sister, Suria Khatun, 26, and her husband Mr Hossin, in North Finchley before he moved to live in Cameron Road, Croydon, a year ago.

They have two daughters, four-year-old Sohana and two-year-old Samira, who both adored their uncle.

The bag he was wearing at the time of his death had one of their toys in it and Mr Hossin said Sohana sleeps with her uncle’s photograph.

Mr Hossin said: "They are always calling him and always looking for their uncle.

"Every day he used to come to our house and I do not know how they are going to cope with it."

He added: "I remember him every day.

"I will always remember his smile. He was a very confident guy and calm.

"He had lots of friends in the area and was well liked."

The crash happened at about 1am on December 29.

Mohammed Asim, 24, of Fieldend Road, Norbury, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop.

He appeared at Camberwell Magistrates’ Court on December 31 and has been remanded in custody to appear at Croydon Crown Court on January 14.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the death and has been bailed to return to a south London police station in February.
