Drivers should expect delays as National Grid starts six weeks of work in Wandsworth Road and Nine Elms Lane.
There will be various lane restrictions, temporary traffic management and a relocation of bus stops.
The works, which start today (Monday, November 10), are expected to be completed by late December 2014.
Engineers will be replacing old metal gas mains with new pipes. Neil Jackson, National Grid project engineer, said: “Our work in the area will help ensure that local people continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies which help keep them warm throughout the autumn and winter months.
“We are doing all we can to deliver this essential work as smoothly as possible with minimal disruption to local people and road users.”
Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to check the Transport for London website before travelling – tfl.gov.uk
