Balham residents are at the end of their tether with noisy road works.

Your Local Guardian:

They say the loud building work, in Hildreth Street, has been going on since March this year - with stone cutting taking place between 8am and 5pm.

A letter sent to the council by one resident said: "I would like to ask if someone would please ask the builders to move their machines away from beside 11-15 Hildreth Street please. They have based their stone cutting there for months and it is not fair.

"The work on the street has been an absolute nightmare and it started right back in March this year.

"My fellow residents and I have been told that the work would be finishing 'next month' since June and it is just not good enough."

A spokesman for Wandsworth Council said: "These works are part of a £350,000 scheme to revitalise and improve Hildreth Street and provide a better and more attractive setting for its popular local street market and its other small businesses.

"Unfortunately whenever large scale works like this are carried out there can be some degree of disruption, and we would of course wish to apologise for any inconvenience suffered by businesses or residents, but the works should be completed soon and will we believe really add to the popularity, attractiveness and economic wellbeing of Balham town centre."
