COUNCIL bosses say ending weekly black bin collections will improve recycling rates in the town.
From April, black bin collections will move to once every other week with blue and green bins being picked up in the alternate weeks.
The town’s recycling rate currently stands at just over 43 per cent and the council has committed to raise this to at least 55 per cent by 2020 as part of its waste strategy.
Clr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “We would like to thank residents for their support and for all their recycling efforts over the last few years.
“When the waste service changes in spring we hope our brilliant recycling rate will increase even further and we want to make sure local people are preparing for the changes so if you haven’t got a blue bin, make sure you order one.”
