The Minister for Skills has launched a new apprenticeships mobile phone app in the borough.

Matthew Hancock MP joined students at South Thames College, Garratt Lane, Wandsworth, to talk about the Apprenticeship Guide.

Mr Hancock met apprentices at the college and learned about their achievements, as well as their plans after their training has concluded.

The free app, developed by Barker Brooks Communications, gives information on available schemes, learning providers and advice on vocational training.

Mr Hancock said: "Apprenticeships are at the heart of our drive to equip people of all ages with the skills employers need to prosper and compete, often in a global market.

"This app will give good, solid information on what opportunities are out there, and how to go about getting them."

Sue Rimmer OBE, principal of South Thames College, said: "We have expanded the number of Apprenticeships we offer and are working with around one hundred and fifty employers in London.

"We recognise the opportunities that Apprenticeships create and are delighted the minister has chosen South Thames College to help launch this valuable new resource."

The Apprenticeship Guide app is available to download for iPhone from the iTunes store and an Android version is being developed.
