The £219m promised to St Helier Hospital could be under threat as a result of the Better Services, Better Value review, according to a Government minister.

Sutton and Cheam MP and care minister Paul Burstow said continued uncertainty over what services will be provided at the hospital and whether they would be deliverable financially, meant the NHS was "running the risk of losing the investment".

He said the BSBV proposals could take seven years to deliver, and while the Government was fully committed to the investment, it could not guarantee what finance would be available at the end of such a long timeframe.

He added: "I think the NHS is playing fast and loose with the £219."
