Community groups in Sutton are being offered the chance to get involved in Olympic and Jubilee celebrations this summer.

There are two weeks left to apply for funding if you want to hold an event during Sutton's Summer Festival 2012, which includes Take Part Take Pride.

Not for profit organisations can apply for up to £500 of council funding to help run their even and the council is particularly interested in events with a Jubilee or Olympic theme.

Individual or groups planning smaller events can apply for a £50 supermarket voucher to help towards the costs of refreshments and decorations.

All applications have to be submitted before the deadline of March 15.

Cllr Graham Tope, Executive Member for Community Safety, Leisure and Libraries said: "2012 is a great time for London and I'm delighted to see that so many residents have decided to get involved and help make summer in Sutton go with a swing.

"The Take Part Take Pride events are always popular. The Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee both taking place make this year a once in a lifetime chance to really celebrate the city that we live in."

Events will kick off on May 19 with the Cheam Charter Fair.

Between June 2 and 5 street parties will be held to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Big Lunch.
