Lost passport led to cannabis raid in Sutton Lost passport led to cannabis raid in Sutton

A passport left in a cafe led to a drugs raid and one man’s arrest today.

PC Steven Barber, of Sutton’s Safer Transport Team, was parked in a marked police car near Burger King, Sutton High Street, when someone approached him with a passport left in a nearby cafe.

Enquiries into the passport's owner took PC Barber to a property in Worcester Road, Sutton, where he was hit by the smell of drugs when the door was opened.

Enquiries were then made about the male passport holder of the second floor flat.

The police returned this morning at 7.40am with a drugs warrant to search the address.

Officers found the man at home along and seized two melon sized bags of cannabis, cash and scales.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs and he is currently being questioned at Sutton Police station.

Other addresses were also raided this morning including one at the Mount, Coulsdon and Throwley Way, Sutton.

Cannabis was seized from both these addresses but there were no arrests.

The raids were carried out as part of Operation Hawk, where local officers respond to information from local communities to target drug dealers, perpetrators of anti-social behaviour and other criminals who adversely impact on communities.
