Wallington man arrested for fraud

A man was arrested for fraud after a huge haul of fake goods were uncovered in his home on Friday, February 3.

Police officers from Sutton Safer Parks and the Post Office Fraud Investigation Team visited the 29-year-old’s home in Stanley Park Road, Wallington.

They seized photocopies of business postage stamps and a quantity of goods which were believed to be counterfeit.

The goods included bras, make-up and hair-grooming kits and the designer brand names included Ralph Lauren, Barbour and Bad Girl.

The man is suspected of running a counterfeit goods business through Ebay and was arrested for obtaining services by fraud.

After examination, Sutton Council’s trading standards team found the items to be fake.

Later in the day, officers searched the adjoining garage and found more counterfeit goods with an estimated value of around £10,000.

Sergeant Gavin Weldon, of Sutton Safer Parks Team B, said: “We are investigating what appears to be a business where goods were sent in the post using fake business stamps through a local Post Office counter.”

The arrested man has been bailed to return to Sutton Police Station in March.
