Two members of a gang who attacked two boys in one afternoon have been sentenced.

Friends Gauthum Vijayakumar and Sobinath Selvarajah, both 18, punched and kicked a 16-year-old in North Cheam on November 10.

The attack, which happened outside the Busy Bees Nursery in North Cheam, was interrupted when police cars arrived on the scene.

The gang of around six youths fled and hid in a nearby driveway but were seen by another 15-year-old youth.

As the police left the area, the gang turned their attention to boy who had spotted them in hiding.

The boy tried to avoid the gang, but he was grabbed and searched by the group as he was walking along Priory Road.

They stole his mobile phone, ipod and headphones.

At 17.15 that afternoon police officers stopped two suspects in Chatsworth Road, off Malden Road.

Vijayakumar was sentenced on December 19 at Croydon Crown Court to a community order of 60 hours unpaid work after pleading guilty to assault with intent to rob.

Vijayakumar, of Blegborough Road, SW16, also received a 12-week curfew from 10pm to 5.30am and to be electronically monitored.

Selvarajah, of Hereward Road, SW17, was sentenced on November 9 at Croydon Crown Court to a community service order for six months and a 12-week curfew from 10pm - 5.30am after pleading guilty to robbing a 15-year-old boy in Priory Road, North Cheam, on the same afternoon.
