A gunshot victim took a taxi to hospital after being shot on an estate.

The 22-year-old was blasted in the knee on Thursday, September 1, near the junction of Avro Way and Typhoon Way in Wallington’s Roundshaw estate.

He is thought to have crawled from where he was shot to an address near the junction, before getting a taxi to St Helier hospital’s accident and emergency.

Police were only informed of the incident at 11pm when the man checked himself in at A&E.

The man has remained tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and police are still investigating.

He was successfully operated on over the weekend and was discharged on Monday.

A police spokeswoman confirmed there had been no arrests.

She said one line of inquiry they were investigating was the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

People on the Roundshaw estate were left shocked by the shooting.

One resident, Stella Pippin, said: “It was only a matter of time before someone got shot.

“Everyone is worried as there are so many young kids who live here.”

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said: “It happened quite late on Thursday night and as there were no police or ambulances, no one is sure what happened.”

The shooting is just one of five gun crimes in Sutton since April when a weapon has been discharged.
